    Writing Need Help Please

write a response to the following prompt:

    ·  Provide a general description of COPPS, and describe how it differs in philosophy and practice from traditional, reactive policing.

    ·  What are the four steps in the S.A.R.A problem solving process, and how can it be used to help stop crime? Give a specific example of a crime, and its situation, that could benefit from this method.

Yolanda: COPPS has been around for a period of time and has been adopted in some police jurisdictions throughout the nation. According to Peak, Gaines, & Glensor, “COPPS is a proactive philosophy that promotes solving problems that are criminal, affect our quality of life, or increase our fear of crime, as well as other community issues. COPPS  involves identifying, analyzing, and addressing community problems at their source” (Peak, Gaines, & Glensor, 2010).

COPPS different from traditional policing, because the traditional policing operated only by the nature of a problems that occurred (reactive) and did not involve the response from the community and as a result, the traditional police responded longer to calls. However, COPPS operates more freely of the problem itself which is proactive. COPPS is more involved within their community, more organizations, and consults with community leaders in taking the right action toward a situation. COPPS respond time to calls more quickly, and work closely within the community.

    The four steps of S.A.R.A.:

    Scanning, Analysis, Response and Assessment.

SARA can be used in the reduction of crime by “providing officers with a logical step-by-step framework to identify, analyze, respond to, and elevate crime, the fear of crime, and neighborhood disorder” (Peak, Gaines, & Glensor, 2010). For example, in the city of Atlanta, there was a report of incidents toward cars being broken into on a daily basis. It was told that the thieves were actually smashing the windows of vehicles and snatching anything they felt that was of value. SARA can help reduce/stop this particular crime by first gathering information from participants in the community include the media reports, having officers monitor the hotspots located in area frequently, and get a good description of the perpetrator from members of the community as well as mapping the location of how many times this crime has occurred.
