Paper on experiences with representation.
We will be talking in class about representation: why it’s important to see people who are like you in the media. By media, I mean: television, movies, music, video games, fashion, etc. And by “people who are like you,” I mean people who share your race or ethnicity, gender, sexuality, body shape, economic class, values, appearance, nationality, etc.–basically any/all of the things that make you who you are.
In this paper, I want you to write about your experiences with representation (i.e., seeing people like you in the media) or lack of representation (i.e., not seeing anyone like you in the media), why representation is important, and what could be done to improve representation in our current media.
