The text says that although the Greek gods were seen as an explanation for natural forces at work in the world, some Greek intellectuals questioned the gods’ goodwill as having any influence on their lives, and started the idea that the “gods do not fashion human misery or happiness, success in war or love, or anything else. Humans make their own world, a fundamental principle of what we think of as Western civilization” (Powell 155). What impact has that idea: that you make your own destiny, had on your culture/belief system/life?
